Sainsbury’s is bringing a new store to Wellesbourne. Opening on 20th May, the supermarket, which is currently in construction, will be the same size as the retailer’s Kenilworth store and recruitment has started now for 130 local jobs.
The store will be open from 8am to 9pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm on a Sunday. There will be a deli, food to go, pizza counter, bakery, as well as Tu clothing and other non-food products.
The new store manager, Karen Carroll, said: “Ahead of the opening, we’re holding a ‘Taster day’ at Wellesbourne Village Hall from 4-8pm where you can see plans for the new supermarket and sample some of our products for free. It will be a great opportunity for us to meet the local community and for them to test some of our products.”
Tom Kirby, Sainsbury’s Property Project Manager overseeing the build of the supermarket, said: “Along with our contractors, RG Group, we’ve been speaking with a number of local charities and community projects about how we can offer them some practical support during the construction of our store – such as cleaning, painting or gardening. We’ve met with Fosse Food Bank, The Shakespeare Hospice, Myton Hospice, as well as representatives from the village hall and the local Scouts. We’re looking forward to working with them while we’re on site.”
The store will also have a small fund to support a nominated local charity each year – a large number of local registered charities have applied and the successful group is to be announced later on in the summer.
Sainsbury’s also runs a nationwide Active Kids programme that helps invest in sporting equipment for schools and local groups. Since 2005, Warwickshire has benefitted from more than £2 million from the programme
